How to Play Lotto Plus 1
To play Lotto Plus 1, you just need to mark the relevant box on your betslip - or select the Plus 1 option if you are online – and pay an additional R2.50 per line. This will give your Lotto numbers another chance to win prizes in the separate Lotto Plus 1 draw, which takes place at 20:57 every Wednesday and Saturday.
Here are a few key points to remember when you play Lotto Plus 1:
- You can only take part if you play the main Lotto game
- If you enter both draws, you also have the option to play Lotto Plus 2
- You don't need to pick more numbers to play Lotto Plus 1 - your main Lotto numbers will be entered into the draw
How Does Lotto Plus 1 Work?
The Lotto Plus 1 draw works in exactly the same way as the main Lotto draw. A random number generator is used to select six winning numbers from 1 to 52, followed by a seventh number - the Bonus Ball - from the remaining 46 numbers. The Lotto Plus 1 results are announced immediately after the Lotto results.
Prizes
You can win multimillion-rand jackpots on Lotto Plus 1. The top prize is given away if someone matches all six main numbers, and it rolls over to the next draw if there are no winners.
If you miss out on the jackpot, there are still seven other ways to win in every draw if you match fewer numbers. There are fixed prizes of R15 and R25 up for grabs in the lowest two prize divisions. The other prize amounts vary from draw to draw because a percentage of the prize pool is allocated to each category and that money is then split between the winners.
The following table shows the different prize divisions, the odds of winning and the prize for each category.
Division | Numbers Matched | Odds of Winning | Prize Pool Percentage | Payout In Last Draw | Average Payout Since 2017 |

Lotto Plus 1 Events
Lotto Plus 1 launched with its first draw on Wednesday, 26 November 2003, more than three years after Lotto began. There were no rollovers initially in Lotto Plus 1. If nobody won the top prize, the jackpot amount rolled down to the next winning prize division. However, changes were made to the game in May 2016 to allow the next Lotto Plus 1 jackpot to grow in value from draw to draw if there were no winners.
The top prize rose to a record R58 million ahead of the draw on 24 November 2018, when two ticket holders split the money and ended a run of 39 rollovers.
