How to Play and Win Matchplay 14
Find out how to play Matchplay 14 and what you need to do to win. It’s a simple prediction game that follows a similar format to most of the other Matchplay games, requiring you to guess what will happen in featured soccer matches from around the world. Follow this simple guide to get started and give yourself the best chance to win.
Grab the fixture list
The National Lottery operator releases a fresh list of 14 upcoming matches for each round of the game. Pick up a list at any retailer, or view them online via the Matchplay 14 Fixtures page
Fixtures shift with the soccer calendar, ranging from local domestic leagues (like the English Premier League) to massive international tournaments (like the World Cup).
Make Your Selections
Your betslip features 14 rows (one for each match) and three outcome columns: 1 (Home Win), X (Draw), and 2 (Away Win). Select what you think will happen in each fixture.
If you’d prefer a shortcut and don’t want to analyse the match-ups, use QuickPlay instead. While these selections are entirely random, it’s a fast way to get into the action. Simply choose how many boards you want to generate: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24, 32, 64, 128, or 256.
Multi-Play Option
You don’t have to limit yourself to predicting one outcome per fixture. Select the Multi-Play option on your betslip and you can choose two or even three of the possible outcomes for some of the fixtures.
This is a great option for those fixtures which you’re not sure about, but keep in mind that you must pay for every combination of predictions that you submit. Choosing all three outcomes on just one game, for example, will triple the cost.
Finalize and Pay
Review your betslip, hand it to the teller, and pay for your ticket. If you are playing online, just ensure your account has a sufficient balance before checking out. The cost is R2 per board.
Your picks are clearly displayed on your ticket. For example, SWEDEN-GREECE 1-- means you backed Sweden (Home) to win, while SWEDEN-GREECE -X- means you predicted a draw.
How to Win Matchplay 14
To take home a cash prize, you need to correctly predict 11 or more of your chosen outcomes. Get all 14 correct to win or share the top prize. A percentage of the prize pool goes to each of the four prize divisions, as shown in the table below.
Please note, match results are based on the official score at the end of regular time (90 minutes plus injury time). Extra time and penalty shootouts do not count.
| Prize Division | Correct Predictions | Prize Pool Percentage | Odds of Winning | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 14 | 35% | 1 in 47,782,969 | ||
| 2 | 13 | 20% | 1 in 170,820 | ||
| 3 | 12 | 20% | 1 in 13,140 | ||
| 4 | 11 | 25% | 1 in 1,643 | ||
| The overall odds of winning are approximately 1 in 607* | |||||
If nobody gets all 14 predictions correct, the prize money rolls over to Division 1 of the next draw, creating even bigger jackpots. For lower divisions, the prize money rolls down if there are no winners. For example, if nobody wins in Division 2, the funds allocated to that prize tier are split between Division 3 and Division 4.
While the mathematical odds above look challenging, those numbers assume completely random selections. Soccer isn't a game of pure chance. By researching a team’s form, analysing skills, and assessing other factors that might be at play, you can drastically tilt the odds in your favour!
