PowerBall players have been urged to check their tickets and claim any prizes they are due after someone won Friday’s jackpot of R86 million.
The jackpot had been steadily climbing for almost two months prior to the draw on 17 September, setting up one of the biggest prizes of the year.
The winning numbers were 8, 10, 17, 26 and 39, with a PowerBall of 14. More than 306,000 prizes were paid out, including the Division 1 prize of R86,547,728.
The jackpot went to one lucky player, who spent R75 on Quick Picks. They played via the Absa banking app so their numbers are safely stored, but they still need to complete an official claim form and visit one of the regional offices.
A PowerBall Plus jackpot of R11 million from Tuesday 14 September is also still unclaimed. There were two winning tickets for this draw, both purchased at the same store - the Flip Flop Supermarket in Port Alfred, Eastern Cape.
All lottery winners in South Africa must come forward within 365 days of the draw date, and officials are always ready to help with all aspects of the claims process.
“We urge all players to check their PowerBall tickets,” said National Lottery operator Ithuba’s CEO Charmaine Mabuza. “Winners of R50,000 and more must visit their nearest Ithuba office to process their winnings.
“Our winner services department is ready to receive the winners. The first step will be to validate the winning ticket and offer the winner free trauma counselling and financial advisory services to assist the winner with their financial planning, as we do with all winners of R50,000 and above.”
Go to the How to Claim page for more information about claiming prizes, as the process differs depending on how much you have won and whether you played online, via a banking app, or at a retailer.
