Rustenburg Pensioner Claims R33 Million PowerBall Plus Jackpot

Last Updated: Wednesday, 13 July 2022, 14:51pm

A retired miner from Rustenburg in the North West has declared that he is going to build houses for his wife and child after winning a PowerBallPlus jackpot worth R33 million.

The big win came on Tuesday 28 June, after the Division 1 prize had surged past R30 million after more than a month of rollovers.

The lucky winner matched the numbers 22, 27, 35, 39 and 48, plus the PowerBall of 12, and has now come forward to claim his eight-figure payout.

Speaking to the National Lottery, he revealed that he had never previously won more than R50, despite being a regular player for nine years.

The man, in his 70s, spent R30 on his ticket and picked his own numbers. He found out he had won after checking the results online, and kept his ticket safe at home until he staked his claim.

“I am so happy to have won the PowerBall Plus jackpot, I am going to build houses for my wife and child. Winning this amount will definitely make a big difference in my life,” said the winner, who has enjoyed relaxing at home and watching TV since finishing his work in the mining industry.

The R33 million payout ranks as the second-largest win on PowerBall Plus this year, after an R94 million jackpot that went to a player from Limpopo in April.

PowerBall Plus works in exactly the same way as the main draw, except you cannot play it on its own. You need to mark the option on your betslip, then your numbers from the main PowerBall game will be entered into a separate draw.

You can see the results for PowerBall and PowerBall Plus every Tuesday and Friday night as soon as draws have taken place.
