PowerBall Winner Claims R158 Million Jackpot

A woman from the North West of South Africa has revealed that she felt like she was in a dream when she found out that she had won a PowerBall jackpot of R158 million.
The second-largest prize of all time was put up for grabs in the draw on Tuesday 27 July, following a run of rollovers dating back to early May. A single ticket matched all of the numbers - 5, 12, 15, 28 and 29, plus the PowerBall of 14 - and the winner has quickly made contact with lottery officials to claim their prize.
The winner has opted to stay anonymous but it has been revealed that it is a lady who spent just R15 on her ticket. She played online using the ABSA banking app, picking the same numbers as she always entered.
“I'm still in disbelief, it's going to stay a secret for a while,” said the lucky player. “When I saw the winning Powerball numbers, I knew that I had won the Powerball jackpot of R158 million, but I kept on checking the numbers throughout the day to ensure that I was not mistaken or that I would wake up from a dream.”
It is the biggest jackpot ever won by an online player in South Africa, and could not have come at a better time for the woman as she had lost her job in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking about her plans for the future, she said she would donate some to charity and place an amount in an education trust for her children. She is also looking forward to making some of her dreams come true.
“I would love to travel to Durban, as I have never been there before and I have always wanted to go there for a family vacation at the seaside,” said the winner.
"A portion of the winnings will go towards building and furnishing our dream home, with the help of an interior designer and the best architect to ensure that everything I have always dreamt of as a little girl becomes exactly what I envisioned."
You can take part in PowerBall every Tuesday and Friday night, and check the latest winning numbers on the Results page straight after every draw.
